(More customer reviews)I purchased this controller from Camping World a few days ago. The hardest part of installation was deciding where to put it. I chose to install it under the dash in front of and slightly left of my right knee. That location seems to be ok and does not interfere with my getting in or out or brake pedal operatin.
First off ... I installed it in a 2010 Silverado 1500, 5.3 Flex-Fuel V-8. It has the factory tow package but no under dash plug in. There is wiring under the dash that is made for a brake controller however. It consists of 4 wires. Red W/ Blk stripe, Dark blue, Black , light blue, and white (ground). You will have to buy a 40 amp box fuse and install it in the huge fuse box under the hood on the drivers side. Also located near the fuse box are two red W/ Blk stripe wires. One is located between the fuse box and left fender well, the other is located on the opposite side. Both are unused and taped to other wiring. I hooked up both. Remove the fuse box cover. The 40 amp fuse plugin is located up front (the fuse diagram is located in the cover). Also notice that there are two 'Threaded Poles' located at the front of the box. This is where you connect the red/blk wires. The connectors on each wire on different sizes (dia), and can only be put on the corresponding pole. Here is the bizzar part. GM chose to make the smaller pole 1/4-24 and the larger pole metric (a bit larger .. forgot the size). Anyway, GM does not provide the nuts for these. You have to go out and buy them at Lowes, etc. The instructions are good for connecting the wires under the dash. I hard-wired mine. Leave the fuse out until you have made the wire connections. After connections are made, follow the instructions with one exception ... set the controller voltage at 3.5 to 4.0 and not 6.0. Do a test drive with a trailer connected and adjust voltage as needed.
The controller is great. I hooked up my camper and took it for a test. worked like a charm. Hope this was not too long winded, but needed to share a few things.
