It will flash the light on the dash and give you a flashing code that you look up but you might be surprised to know that all you really need is a paper clip and the knowledge of which 2 pins in the OBD1 connector to short together and you will save money. Please be sure you know which 2 pins before you try anything maybe even if you have a technician that you know or go to could give you some incite but they might not. The pins that must touch for engine codes are A and B. For ABS(anti-lock braking system) you must touch pins A and H. Hope this helps you in your diagnosis.
